Nico's Walks

Nico and I became fast friends. Our brief 15 minute morning walks quickly grew in scope and scale until we were wandering around Prospect Park for an hour or more nearly every day. I took thousands of pictures, made dozens of paintings, drew for many mornings and consumed untold amounts of coffee. Nearly every painting was envisioned with Nico at my side.

We walked. We took turns leading. It was an invitation to look at the world in a particular way. Deliberate, daily, and outside of myself.

Before I met Nico, I did not give myself permission to wander Prospect Park. I thought at the time, I was just walking her on a leash.

We were writing and drawing our lives together through that leash, like a pencil with two ends.
